Santa Pod Raceway, Airfield Road, Podington
Written by: Mark Roberts
We all left Cornwall at various times during Saturday for the long trip to Santa Pod. Sabrina, Tony, Josh, Steve, Martin, Will and Fran took the hardy option and camped. While Mark, Lewis, Trevor and Tyler stayed at a nearby Travel Lodge.
Sunday dawned with bright sunshine "Great" apart from my 2.8 overheating while queuing for our club stand (drove home ok though) We had 5 cars on our stand, 3 Capri's and 2 Sierra's, we didn't put up our sign though, due to the increasing wind.
There were some great cars on display including an Mk2 Escort AA van and a Tawny Brown Mk1 Escort for sale with only 101 miles. Capri Power had a great display, but they were beaten by the sheer numbers on the OSF stand. (over 90 cars) Classic Fords "Great Unveiling" produced 5 never seen before fresh builds with an interesting Capri and a gorgeous Consul Capri GT. There was the usual drag strip action, a chance to experience a Mk2 Escort rally car, and a stunt show by Terry Grant, which was excellent. (Lewis then had a entertaining ride in a drift car) There was one negative though, Josh's Capri was damaged at the camp site by some drunken idiots, maybe security needs to be stepped up next year.
To sum up – a great show and well worth a visit next year, though I would recommend a Travel Lodge.
